Shop Small Boulder was created to support neighbors who lost SNAP benefits during the 2025 government shutdown, and to uplift fellow entrepreneurs and local small businesses at the same time. We will continue to support food banks through the holiday season regardless of the status of SNAP benefits.
Our goal is to give shoppers a meaningful way to support Boulder businesses while also giving back to the community. Participating businesses pledge a minimum donation of $2 for every item sold through their featured promotion, ensuring every purchase directly helps local families. We are so lucky to live here, lets continue to celebrate and lift up our community. Launched in 2025 and here to support for the future.
How it Works:
- Businesses sign a pledge to donate a minimum of $2 from each item sold via unique Shop Small Boulder promotions and create a free listing.
- Visitors can then shop offers, both online and in person. Businesses track how many of the promoted items were sold.
- At the year’s end, businesses will submit a donation to approved local food banks. Shop Small Boulder will then collect receipts and verify donations.
A note from Shop Small Boulder founder, Crystal Sagan:

Boulder is a special place with the best people, a vibrant community, and the most beautiful outdoor space. I’ve lived here since November 2006 and owned small businesses here since 2011 (currently Cocktail Caravan). I’ve built a life here I could never have imagined as I drove across the state line all those years ago. This place has filled my cup since day one and I’m forever grateful for the relationships, opportunities, and experiences that have come from living here.
Cocktail Caravan has given me the pleasure of creating experiences around bar programs at private events like weddings and dinner parties. These are non-essential parts of life as far as basic needs go, and I recognize that I am incredibly privileged to make a living off of these fun, but luxurious activities when compared to struggles faced by our communities. Because of this, I’ve always made it my mission to support local non-profits in various ways. Shop Small Boulder is a natural extension of this, which I invite my fellow local business owners to join in on.
With SNAP benefits expiring, I worry about neighbors who need support not having what they need. I’m hopeful SNAP will be back quickly. Just to be safe, I’ll be rallying the team (a.k.a. local businesses) so we can be the bridge between supporting local businesses and taking care of neighbors.
Cheers,
Crystal
